After care

PREserve
your moment

After finishing your tattoo, Heeya will place a second skin/ term shield bandage, plastic wrap, or dry pad over your tattoo.

All serve as protective barriers for the first stage of the tattoo healing process, and the beginning of your aftercare will depend on which one you receive.

second skin/
Derm shield

Please leave the bandage on for 48 hours. The bandage is water-resistant, so it is safe to shower, but avoid using water that is too hot and do not submerge the bandaged area, as sometimes water can leak in. Do not be alarmed if you see colored fluid accumulating under the bandage; this is plasma, which naturally helps with the healing process and takes up fragments of ink that will not impact the brightness of your fully-healed tattoo.

For easiest removal, remove the bandage under warm, running water. If you see redness around the edges of the bandage or irritation occurs, please take it off immediately. In any case, after removing the second skin and washing the area, follow general steps of care detailed below.

Plastic wrap/
Dry pad

Remove plastic wrap after 2-3 hours or dry pad after 4-6 hours. Rinse off the area with lukewarm water and unscented, antibacterial soap. After washing, follow general steps of care detailed below.

General steps

Whichever bandage, after you remove it and wash the tattooed area, allow it to air dry for 5-10 minutes. For the following three days, apply a VERY thin layer of Aquaphor at least twice a day, making sure to not leave your tattoo too dry or wet. After the Aquaphor phase, switch to any water-based unscented moisturizer you prefer and apply at least twice a day, or as needed, for the following two weeks.

For the first 2-3 weeks after receiving your tattoo, avoid anything that can make you hot, sweaty, or wet, i.e. avoid working out, hot baths, hot showers, swimming pools, beaches, tanning, etc.
